Dear reader,
Ever wondered what links a six-year-old’s indestructible Lego cars, a vintage switchboard operator, and the quiet renegotiations of enterprise design?

It’s 11:00 PM. I’m on my hands and knees searching the rug for a single black Lego tile, muttering under my breath while trying to rebuild a yellow Lamborghini for the third time. To my son, the cars never break. In his eyes, it's a fundamental truth. He doesn't see the unseen effort; he just enjoys the smooth reality.

Whether it’s the playroom or the boardroom, keeping operations smooth without showing the friction creates a dangerous illusion.

When leadership, systems, and governance work properly, two things happen:
The calm is taken for granted. When governance works silently, the wider business stops allocating resources to the mechanics that keep things running.
Your standards look like gatekeeping. People don't see the weeks of technical rework or wasted budget you saved them from—they just think you’re being bloody difficult.

Delivery without visibility is a structural trap. When your groundwork stays hidden, high standards start to feel like arbitrary gatekeeping. Strategic influence isn't built by just being right; it's built by ensuring your standards are experienced as enabling rather than restrictive.

Good leadership often looks like doing nothing at all, but going unseen shouldn't mean letting your value vanish into thin air. You have to show the scaffolding before you take it down. Stop letting smooth delivery hide your strategic worth.

The new DOPAMINO chapter is live.

Get on it.

Cheers,
Luigi

Does the Ferrari Luce keep the fire alive, or worship the ashes? As the brand's first EV sparks a fierce debate, I couldn't resist joining the conversation on Jony Ive and Flavio Manzoni's radical creation. From Giugiaro's structural praise to Pagani's love for the analogue interior, here is my take on why Ferrari Luce design isn't a beauty pageant—it's architecture in motion.

Last night, a 'broccoli standoff' at my dinner table taught me more about management than a decade of boardroom meetings.

It turns out, your team isn't reading your manifesto—they’re watching your plate. If you’re not living the values you preach, you’re essentially signing a high-interest loan that rots your culture from the inside out. I call it Invisible Governance. It’s the silent architecture of team behaviour—the only thing that actually works when no one is looking.

In the latest chapter, I’m breaking down:
The 'Just This Once' Trap: How small compromises bankrupt your operations.
Invisible Governance: Why actions always outspeak documentation.
Leading by Example: Why they're watching you, not your 'Culture' slide.

The new chapter is live. 🥦
Cheers

Dear reader,

Ever wondered what links a glass of Aglianico, Sir Winston Churchill, and a four-year-old taking the mickey?

It’s 8:02 PM. I’ve got a proper red in one hand and a tiny hostage negotiator in the other, begging for “ten more minutes” of Netflix.

In that moment, giving in feels like a bit of peace. In reality, you’re signing a high-interest loan with Technical Debt.

Whether it’s the playroom or the boardroom, “just this once” is a total lie. It’s not a harmless exception—it’s a dangerous new baseline that rots your product from the inside out.

When “just once” becomes your standard procedure, the interest rates go through the roof. Velocity drops, scalability binns it, and innovation suffocates.

Excellence is an act of exclusion. It’s having the stones to say "No" to protect the mission.

Stop negotiating with the noise. The new DUBV chapter is live.
Get on it.

Cheers
Luigi

Dear reader,
Every time I’m out for a pint, I get asked the same thing: "Luigi, mate, what’s the big deal with pineapple on pizza?"

Most people think it’s a food debate. It’s not. It’s a Design Governance debate. That pineapple is a direct threat to Excellence—the exact kind of rogue request that wrecks your delivery velocity and burns your budget.

I’ve just posted about why true Design Excellence is actually a choice of exclusion. If you're tired of paying a "Technical Tax" for every dodgy, one-off component, this one is for you.

Have a read and let me know your thoughts. Just... don't bring the fruit, yeah?

Take care,

Dear friend,
I hope 2026 is treating you well.

In this first post of the year I wrote down what I would say to my younger self after five decades on this planet.

At fifty, I've stopped chasing after illusions and started seeking the essence behind the strategies. This is a letter to the designer I once was: a compilation of career advice I wish I had received before I spent years getting lost in the superficial. It's about having the courage to say no and the wisdom to safeguard what truly matters.

Cheers
Luigi

P.S. I watched again Steve Jobs' speech at Stanford. More than ever my wish for all of you is "stay hungry, stay foolish!"

Dear reader,
I hope this message finds you well.

In this post, I'll continue to reflect on the leadership patterns in management and parenting that consistently connect these two worlds.

Whether you’re overseeing a team of 15 or wrangling two little rascals fighting over a Lego brick, the challenges you face are quite similar: nurturing growth in others while navigating uncertainty.

I explored three patterns, the first one isn’t just about being nice; it’s about strategic effectiveness. The second one is the toughest pattern for perfectionists, and as designers, we often set perfection as our sole benchmark. And the third one, simplifies my view of leadership, I’ve come to see it as the art of saying NO as a guiding principle.

Thank you for reading.

Take care,

Dear reader,
I hope this message finds you well.

Respect is one of my core principles and serves as the backbone of my relationships. Recently, I came across a photograph of Coppi and Bartali exchanging a water bottle during the grueling 1949 Tour de France. This moment, one of the most iconic in sports history, struck me in a fresh way. Here were two fierce rivals, locked in a tough competition, yet one athlete extended a hand to support the other. That instant made me realize how beautifully this image captures the essence of respect.

This snapshot resonates deeply with my experiences working on complex projects within cross-functional teams. The diverse personalities, skill sets, and cultural backgrounds we encounter create a rich tapestry of perspectives, which can make it challenging to find the best way forward to unlock true business value.

I felt compelled to share my thoughts on respect as an essential ingredient for fostering innovation, learning, and ultimately, driving business success within cross-functional teams.

I hope you find it enjoyable!

Take care,

The all-new Thermomix TM7 stands as the cornerstone of the next generation of Vorwerk's revolutionary kitchen appliances. Thermomix models have delighted culinary enthusiasts worldwide since 1961. To support the product launch on February 14th 2025, the Experience Design Team (XDT) crafted a landing page. This project allowed me to sponsor and blend strategic, system-driven design with business acumen.

In the next paragraphs, I will rewind the tape from the last four months to explain how the XDT and its design system FiBRE Single Blend faced this monumental challenge and delivered a design that unlocks business value.
